Land & Water Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that we live and work on Treaty 1 Territory, the traditional and ancestral lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene people, and the Homeland of the Metis Nation. We acknowledge that Winnipeg’s water is sourced from Shoal Lake 40 First Nation and that Treaties 2, 3, 4 and 5 were signed in other areas of Manitoba.

We respect the Treaties made on these territories and we acknowledge the harms and mistakes. We are committed to working in partnership with First Nations, Inuit and Métis people in the spirit of truth, reconciliation, and collaboration.

Land acknowledgements are an opportunity to create awareness and understanding with respect to our commitment to reconciliation. It is important to note that land acknowledgement is only a small part of cultivating strong relationships with Indigenous communities.
